The bathroom is a wet place. The water sitting in there all the time can harbor bacteria and mildew and become bad fast. If you would like to keep your bathroom nice and serviceable, start with your mats. Mold and mildew develop easily in these conditions, which can lead to foul odor and alergic reaction.

Follow this guide by house cleaning Florence for cleaning your bathroom mats.

Prepare a diluted bleach solution:

Before the house cleaning process begins, all you should lift up the bath mat so that it doesn’t get suctioned to the bottom of the tub. To clean the bath mat, soak them in the bleach solution in the bathtub; the strength of the solution wil depend on the material of your mat, check the manufacturers website if you are unsure. A large sink will work for this as well.

Use a protective gear:

When house cleaning, the bleach solution could be accidentaly splashed onto your body or face when you pour it into the bathtub. You should wear protective glasses or goggles and gloves if you have them available.

Well-Ventilated Bathroom:

When you are house cleaning, you should open ay windows in the bathroom and swtich on the exhaust fan before preparing the bleach solution. This is not only safer for yourself, it is good for the bathroom to have fresh air circulating.

Add only cold water:

During your house cleaning, you should add at least one gallon of water to the bathtub before you add any bleach; do not add bleach directly to a dry tub. Do not use hot water when making your solution, use cold water only.

Measure the bleach:

When house cleaning, try not to add the bleach all in one spot in the tub, pour it in along the length of the tub to help it dilute quickly.  Follow some tips.

- Add 1 teaspoon of chlorine bleach in one gallon water for the normal house cleaning process.

- For heavy cleaning add 1 cup of chlorine bleach in five gallon of water.

- The alternative to chlorine is to make a solution of one cup of vinegar and one cup of water and then scrub your bathroom mat.

Soak and scrub the Mat:

- To get rid of mold or mildew, you need to leave your bathroom mats in bleach solution for 4 hours.

- To get a fresh bath mat quickly, clean it with the brush or the scouring pad to get rid of dirt and debris after soaking them for few minutes.

Dry the bath mats:

Once you are done with cleaning, hang dry in the sun if possible. Do not put them in the dryer as they can warp.
